Simple EPUB TTS Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the ‘EPUB/PDF Reader: Offline TTS’ application (“the App”) handles user data.

The App works offline. It does NOT collect, store, or share personal information. A few optional features (downloading dictionaries and fonts) use the internet only when you choose to use them, as described below.

File Access

The App requests permission to access files on the device solely to allow books selected by the user (EPUB, PDF and TXT files) to be imported.

Specifically:

File access is used only to select and open files chosen by the user, including files opened in the App through the device’s “Open with” option.
Imported books remain stored locally on the device.
Books are never uploaded, transmitted, or backed up to external servers.

How the App Works

After a book is imported, the App provides the ability to:

Read books within the App
Listen to books using the device’s built-in Text-to-Speech engine
Adjust voices, languages, speaking speed, and how words and symbols are read aloud
Customize reading themes and fonts
Add highlights, notes, bookmarks, and tags
Search within book content
Look up words in downloaded dictionaries

Reading, listening, searching, and dictionary lookups all happen locally on the device.

Optional Internet Features

The App uses the internet only for the following optional features, and only when you use them:

Dictionaries

When you open the Dictionaries page, the App downloads the list of available dictionaries (at most once a day) from a file hosted on GitHub.
When you choose to download a dictionary, the App downloads the dictionary file from the address given in that list.
Once downloaded, dictionaries are stored on the device and work offline. Word lookups and your lookup history never leave the device.

Fonts

If you choose to browse or download fonts from Google Fonts, the App downloads the font list, small previews, and the fonts you select from Google’s servers (fonts.google.com and fonts.googleapis.com).
Downloaded fonts are stored on the device and work offline.

What is sent: These downloads are ordinary file requests. The App does not send your books, your reading activity, your lookups, or any personal information. As with any internet connection, the servers you connect to (GitHub, Google) can see your device’s IP address and basic technical request information, which is handled under their own privacy policies.

If you never use these features, the App never connects to the internet for them.

Links and Reviews

Tapping a web link inside a book, or the links on the App’s About page, opens it in your device’s browser or email app.
The App may ask you to rate it. Ratings and reviews are handled entirely by Google Play.

Text-to-Speech

Text-to-Speech functionality is provided by the operating system’s built-in Text-to-Speech service. The App does not transmit book content or text externally.

Voice and language data are managed entirely by the device’s operating system and the Text-to-Speech engine you choose in your device settings.

Data Collection

The App does NOT collect:

Personal information
Account information
Usage analytics
Book content
Dictionary lookups
Audio recordings

The App does not include third-party analytics services or advertising SDKs.

No user data is shared with third parties.

Children’s Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from any users, including children.

Security

Books, highlights, notes, dictionaries, preferences, and settings are stored locally on the device. Apart from the optional downloads described above, the App does not connect to external servers.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically. Any updates will be reflected on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
